Opportunity

Whiteburn purchased two vacant former whisky bonds in a courtyard setting on Maritime St, Leith in 1997. Dilapidated and full of pigeons, but only 200m from the many bars and restaurants on The Shore, they seemed ripe for rejuvenation.

Challenge

Working with architect Gordon Duffy, we gained a unique building warrant for shell dwellings, creating Scotland’s first genuine “lofts” development, adding funky top floor galleries and roof terraces. Buyers could opt to plan and do their own internal fitouts (and many did!)

Leith Lofts was one of the first residential developments to be marketed on the internet, with pioneering on-line fly-thru’s created for each apartment.

Marketing directly from one of the warehouses as a sales office (great for parties!) virtually all 28 apartments sold prior to completion.  Leith Lofts featured in an ITV Home Show episode on loft living.
