Two adjacent plots on the former Scottish Courage brewery site presented a challenging redevelopment opportunity for Whiteburn.
Recognising the chance to create something bold in an emerging development area, we took an option on the site just prior to Donald Dewar’s announcement of Holyrood as the chosen location for Scotland’s new parliament.
Following a design competition, we appointed Allan Murray Architects, who obtained consent for a mixed use development - retaining the old brewery shell and adding a striking new facade on Holyrood Road.
Securing the BBC as anchor tenant, we added a further array of government, public sector and cultural occupiers (British Council, European Parliament, Scottish Enterprise) with a couple of bars and a restaurant too.

The Tun won BCO awards for Best Commercial Workplace in Scotland and the UK.
Whiteburn held The Tun in its investment portfolio until fully let and occupied. We then sold it in August 2007 to an investment fund.
