Whiteburn are delighted to announce their support behind a new sporting initiative with Red Sky Management called ‘Whiteburn Athlete of the Quarter’.
A financial reward is given to an athlete who has performed outstandingly in the previous three months and who would really benefit from support. For the first quarter, Whiteburn have chosen to support Commonwealth Champion Robbie Renwick.
Robbie had a superb month picking up Scotland’s first Gold at the Commonwealth Games. The race the day before had been a disappointment, as he was leading for much of the event but lost momentum. Not to be disheartened, he turned everything around, storming to the lead in the 200m freestyle and taking his position on top of the podium. The next day, he anchored the 4 x 200m relay team to silver – a huge performance given that he took to the water in 5th position. Following the death of his coach in March he has managed to stay focused and he produced the swim of his life.
Robbie’s next main target will be the World Championships, which take place in Shanghai in July next year, but there will be qualifying times to hit to get there. And before that there are also the Scottish National Championships, which take place early January 2011 in Glasgow.
