Following several months of negotiation Whiteburn can now confirm that, with backing from the Clydesdale Bank, they have completed the purchase of 207 Cowgate, a Nightclub trading as “Faith”, from Festival Inns. The club is based in the ground and first floors of a former Church building located on the south side of the Cowgate, opposite its junction with Blair Street and Stevenlaws Close.
In the short term, Whiteburn have agreed a lease to Bruce Taverns, of Whistle Binkies and Cabaret Voltaire fame, who intend to run “Sin Bar and Lounge” from the premises. Bruce Taverns Director Kevan Fullerton said that “we are very pleased to be taking over this long neglected but unique and formerly popular venue.”
In the longer term, the club will be fully redeveloped in conjunction with the adjacent SoCo development to provide an improved offer in keeping with the proposed new uses within SoCo. John Shepherd commented that “working with Bruce Taverns allows this building to be revitalised and in the longer term redeveloped to a high quality venue and will raise the game above the current offers on the Cowgate.”
